New Scholarship: Milo C. Albrecht Nursing Scholarship

Thanks to generous donors, Hesston College can extend another new institutional endowed scholarship to students with distinct interests, qualifications or financial requirements.

Almost all Hesston College students benefit from institutional aid. Supplementary scholarships like the Milo C. Albrecht Nursing Scholarship facilitate students’ journeys toward achieving their academic aspirations, no matter where they are in their career journey. Take a look at the following stories for two examples of students affected by donor generosity.

Oscar Becerra ’25, ’27, a freshman business management major and member of the men’s soccer team, received the Bachman Springer Business Scholarship. Becerra is pursuing his dream of one day owning his own business.

In a letter expressing his gratitude for the college’s support he writes, “With this great help, I am able to attend a very prestigious school with great history behind it and a very well educated place where it’s not only a college where people go to study, it is a community where all together we help each other become successful.”

Becerra is confident he can overcome challenges and find success in his field.

“Facing adversity won’t be easy, but with this kind of help that y’all have given me, it pushes me and motivates me to continue my path and to not give up because there are always great people who will support you just like y’all did.”

Trey Lasseter ’24, a nontraditional student in his final year of the nursing program, received the Susan Claassen Nursing Scholarship. While earning his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Wichita (Kan.) State University, Lasseter discovered his passion for holistic health care.

After several years working for Prairie View, a mental health treatment facility in Newton, Kan., Lasseter began considering nursing as a career, and in 2021, he was accepted into Hesston’s nursing program.

Lasseter expressed his gratitude for the scholarship in a letter saying, “Hesston College and its nursing program have given me the opportunity to better myself, as well as find fulfillment in an occupation that embodies compassionate care.”

He concluded his letter with the Dutch phrase “hoop doet leven” which translates to “hope brings life.”
