Move-in times for dorming students will be distributed among six dates and assigned according to cohort groups to limit numbers of individuals moving into the dorms and through registration at one time.
The number of guests allowed to accompany a student to campus during Opening Week is limited to two adults. These guests will only be allowed into their students’ dorm room on move-in day. One of the guests also may accompany the student at registration if they choose.
Beginning two-weeks prior to each student’s scheduled move-in time, all students and their families have been asked to do their best to avoid crowded areas and large group gatherings (e.g. beaches, concerts, extended family reunions, theme parks, etc.) and instead use this two week period to be with small groups of individual family members and friends before departing for Hesston College. Students and their guests are encouraged to use extreme caution as they travel by using face masks and social distancing measures.
As mandated by the state of Kansas, all students arriving from any country or state with known widespread community transmission of COVID-19 will be required to self-quarantine in Kansas for 14 days. Hesston College will provide housing, food and other types of support during times of quarantine. Students from these locations will be contacted by our staff to arrange for their 14 days of quarantine upon their arrival. We recommend students arrive 14 days prior to your scheduled Opening Week arrival to Hesston College to be able to fully engage in orientation activities during Opening Weekend and begin in-person classes on time. See this site managed by Kansas health authorities for the most up-to-date list of travel- and exposure-related states requiring quarantine in order to plan accordingly.
All students will be required to complete an online pre-screening health form no sooner than the week prior to their arrival as part of their Student Checklist on myHesston. This form will be reviewed and signed upon arrival to ensure all students and their guests are symptom-free. Temperatures will also be taken as part of the screening process.
Face masks will be required during move-in and in common areas such as registration areas, restrooms, stairways, lobbies, foyers, classrooms, etc. Disposable masks will be provided to guests if they do not provide their own. Hesston College will provide one reusable face mask and a refillable bottle of hand sanitizer to all students and employees upon their arrival to campus. Students should have at least two other washable face masks to use throughout the year. Additional masks will be available for purchase in the Hesston College Bookstore.
Registration planning includes social distancing, labeling entrance and exit doors, and staggering cohort groups to keep numbers down at any one time.
Students will be asked to arrive on campus at the Mullet Drive Entrance and remain in their vehicles for check-in, screening, and will be directed to their assigned location for moving into the dormitory.
Events will be planned with social distancing guidelines in mind and information sessions will be pre-recorded as much as possible to allow all students and family members to access the information should they decide not to participate in opening week gatherings.
