What to bring (and what not to bring)

What to bring

Students traveling from a distance may find that they need to plan to purchase some of these larger items when they arrive. You may consult with your admissions counselor on how and when this can be done.

  • several cloth face masks
  • health insurance card
  • refillable water bottle
  • extra long twin bed sheets and a mattress pad
  • twin bed comforter/blanket
  • pillow(s)
  • extra blanket
  • towels and washcloths
  • bathroom caddie and supplies (soap, shampoo, razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant,etc.)
  • laundry basket and detergent
  • computer (for more information and recommended computer specifications, see the Information Technology FAQ)
  • refrigerator (talk with roommate before bringing one)
  • backpack/duffle bag (overnight trips)
  • clothes hangers
  • school supplies (scissors, paper clips, stapler, pens, pencils, etc.)
  • notebook and folders for each class
  • calendar
  • room decor (posters, pictures, etc.)
  • kitchen basics (bowl, plate, silverware, cup)
  • snack foods
  • iron and mini ironing board (if you iron on a regular basis)

What not to bring

  • halogen lamps
  • guns of any sort (BB, paintball, firearm)
  • pets
  • fireworks or explosive devices
  • alcohol, illegal drugs or items pertaining to alcohol or illegal drugs (including empty bottles or cans)
  • microwave ovens, electric grills, fryers, toaster ovens
  • electric heaters
  • ceiling fans
