- Is there somewhere I can go to see what I still need to do?
When you were accepted to Hesston College, you were set up with a my.Hesston checklist, which shows information that is specific for you – forms and documents you or your school may still need to send to the admissions office or complete online, as well as your financial aid award package. If you are missing something or want to know what your next step should be, look at your my.Hesston page first.
To access your my.Hesston account, enter your username and password (these were sent to you via email or in the mail when you applied for admission) on the my.Hesston log in page and click “Login.” If you lost your username and password, contact your admissions counselor by emailing international@hesston.edu. Once you are logged in, click “Admissions” in the top box to see your page.
- How do I get a login for my.Hesston?
- Your my.Hesston account username and password were sent to you via email or in the mail when you applied. If you lost your username and password, contact your admissions counselor by emailing international@hesston.edu. To access your my.Hesston account, go to my.Hesston. Enter your username and password and click “Login.”
- How do I secure my place in the dorms?
Start by filling out and submitting the housing form on your my.Hesston page. You can find it by clicking on the “Housing and Registration” link on the right side of the page. The housing form will help us try to match you with a compatible roommate. Then submit all financial requirements which includes the non-refundable $200 deposit, bank statement and financial agreement. You can use Flywire or bank wire transfer to make the payment. The bank information was sent to you when you were accepted. If you can't find the information, please email international@hesston.edu. Submitting the three financial items mentioned above secures your place once you register for classes.
We can’t place you in a dorm room until you have submitted all financial requirements and received your I-20, and the first round happens in mid May. Complete your requirements early for the best chance at getting the room you want. Your housing information, including the name of your roommate, will be posted on your my.Hesston page in early summer.
- How do I register for classes?
- Registration information will appear on your my.Hesston page when it is time for you to start getting ready to register for classes. Your academic advisor will have a tentative schedule prepared for you. You will have some time with your academic advisor during the orientation week to make needed adjustments. Please check your hesston.edu email often because most academic advisors will email you to introduce themselves and ask you some questions about the schedule. You can also look online at the class options and get ideas about the classes you need and want to take. The college’s course catalog is also available online.
- Who is my academic advisor?
- Your academic advisor is a faculty member who will serve as your mentor during your time at Hesston. They will typically be someone from your field of study and will help you set your class schedule so you get the credits you need to graduate. You can see who your advisor is on the “Registration” page at my.Hesston. Feel free to contact your advisor with any questions about registering for classes, your schedule or your major.
- How do I get my books for class?
- After you have registered, your class schedule will be posted to your my.Hesston page. Click on the “Academics” link in the box at the top of the page to see your schedule. Then open the “Textbook Reservation” link under “Handouts” or visit the Hesston College Bookstore online after July 1 for instructions on placing your book order. You can reserve new or used books to save some money, but used books will be reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis, so the earlier your place your order, the more likely you are to get used books. You can either purchase or rent your books, and they will be available for you to pick up in the Hesston College Bookstore during Opening Weekend in August. You can also wait to purchase them during orientation week since your schedule may change after you meet with your academic advisor.
- What is Opening Weekend?
- Opening Weekend is the official kickoff of the academic year. It is when you move into your dorm room, go through final registration to ensure your information is complete, buy your books and become an official Hesston College student. Opening Weekend begins the Friday before classes start for the fall semester. As a first-year international student you will attend a week-long orientation session prior to Opening Weekend and other events to help you become familiarized with campus. Take a look at the academic calendar to plan for Opening Weekend and other important dates (mid terms, Thanksgiving weekend, fall and spring breaks and commencement, to name a few).
- Can my parents or family members participate in Opening Weekend?
- Absolutely! You’ll probably want your parents’ help to move into the dorms, and there will also be events and orientation sessions for them to attend to become familiar with Hesston College and what you will experience as a student. Please be sure your family arranges their own accommodations if they choose to attend.
- When do I arrive on campus for the fall term?
- Most students arrive on campus and move into their dorm rooms on the Sunday afternoon before Opening Weekend. If you run cross country or play golf, soccer or volleyball, your coach will provide a full schedule. If you sing in Bel Canto Singers or are a theatre scholar, you will move in the Sunday before Opening Weekend.
- What can I have in my dorm room?
- The dorm rooms are equipped with twin beds, desks, dressers, closets and wireless Internet. You just need to bring personal furnishings. That includes hangers, wastepaper basket, bathroom items and whatever else you need to feel at home. If you forget something, don’t worry, there is a Walmart just 10 minutes away in Newton. We will schedule a couple trips to Walmart during orientation week. A more complete packing list is available on the my.Hesston housing page. Also check the what to bring page for details and the Information Technology FAQ to learn more about the college's network.
