Next Steps

By now youve hopefully gotten all the celebrating out of your system, because now that youre officially a Hesston student, you have some work to do. Not bad work, good work… but work nonetheless.

Basically, you need to get some things done, and the best way to go about it is to know what you need to do before you arrive at Hesston, and what to do after you arrive. This will make your transition to the Hesston community as smooth as can be.

Before You Arrive

Complete your checklist on my.Hesston.

Send in your prepayment

Once you commit, you need to send us your $200 prepayment. The prepayment is refundable upon request until May 1. This prepayment will secure your spot at Hesston College. If you plan to live in the dorms, the prepayment will also put you on the list for room assignments.

Complete your housing application

After youre accepted, you will receive information about completing your housing application. The housing application will help us determine your lifestyle preferences in order to make the best possible roommate assignment. Youll receive your roommate assignment and other pertinent information via your my.Hesston account during the summer.

Complete your health form

The health form is in two parts – one that is submitted via your my.Hesston account and one to download and take to your physician for a signature. The health form must be completed before you can move into the dorms or attend classes.

Register for classes

After you commit, you will receive information outlining registration procedures. Again, we send these things out en masse, so if you dont get it immediately after your acceptance, relax, its coming. You will register online through your my.Hesston account.

Order your textbooks and supplies (after July 1)

Once registered, you can step to the front of the line and order your textbooks and supplies online. This is the way to go, especially if you want to purchase used textbooks to save a few dollars. (The bookstore fills online requests for used textbooks before the store opens in the fall.) Our bookstore staff will have your order – the right books for all your classes – boxed and ready when you arrive on campus.

Pack your things and come to Hesston!

Were excited to see you and we will have a group of students and staff ready to help you move into the dorms. Unpacking and organizing are up to you and your roommate and any family members you can convince to help you. Here are a few ideas of things you might want to bring.

After You Arrive

Opening Weekend

Opening Weekend is when the entire Hesston campus community comes together to usher in the new academic year. It takes place over a weekend in mid August and includes an opening celebration, campus picnic, orientation sessions, games and the ever-popular Nest Olympics.

Moving in

Most students move in on the Friday of Opening Weekend and join the other students in their nests” — our very cool version of residence halls. Each nest consists of 30 to 60 students. You can either choose your own roommate or well line one up for you.

What to bring

Youll want to bring your own linens, towels, blankets, hangers, wastepaper basket and pillow. Other things students typically bring are computers, T.V.s, bikes, irons and anything else youll need to make it feel like home. See a more comprehensive list here.

What Not to Bring

Sorry, but we ask that you not bring halogen lamps, guns of any sort (including bb and paintball), pets (other than fish), fireworks or explosives, alcohol or illegal drugs. Find additional details on the What to Bring page.

Exploring the Bookstore

You will find everything you need at our bookstore located in Erb Hall: books, software, supplies, Hesston apparel, art supplies, greeting cards, gifts and snacks. Its a one-stop shop. The bookstore is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is closed weekends, except for special occasions. Oh, and Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express are accepted for any purchase. The bookstore is also where you will pick up your mail and packages. When you order from Amazon, or anywhere for that matter, your shipping address at Hesston College is (your name), 325 S College Dr., Hesston, KS 67062. For Amazon orders, you can also use the Amazon locker in the parking lot by Bontrager Student Center.

The Student Handbook

This is a pretty important little friend you can find on the colleges website. Your Student Handbook will fill you in on everything you need to know as you get settled in here at Hesston.
