The Hesston College athletic department announces the hiring of Eric Schwab to coach cross country and track. Schwab has been the head cross country and track coach at different programs around the country. He earned his master’s degree at Azusa (Calif.) Pacific University (APU) while coaching there. Schwab has also worked at Fresno (Calif.) Pacific University where he was named Golden State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year ten times. He also worked at Tabor College (Hillsboro, Kan.) and Oklahoma Wesleyan University (Bartlesville), coaching teams to three top ten NAIA finishes.
“Eric brings a solid resume with 25 years of coaching experience at small Christian colleges,” said interim Athletic Director Mark Landes. “He has a genuine calling to nurture young athletes and equip them to grow in their faith experience, reach their athletic and academic potential and pursue their calling in life. We are excited to have Eric on board as we turn to this new chapter in our Cross Country and Track programs.”
“I am looking forward to serving at Hesston College,” said Coach Eric Schwab. “I will do my best to help every team member’s overall experience to be the best it can be.”
Schwab also leaves a legacy off the track where 32 former runners have become coaches at the collegiate and high school levels. “I desire to to be used by the Lord,” he added, “to have a positive influence in the lives of every student athlete on our team.”
Hesston College is a college of the Mennonite Church USA. The Larks compete in 14 intercollegiate sports as part of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference and the National Junior College Athletic Association.
