The Hesston College baseball team headed to Richland Community College for a few days of doubleheaders as the 2018 season is officially underway. Friday the Larks dropped both of their games 6-1 and 4-3. Saturday the teams split with Richland winning game one 13-0 and the Larks taking game two, 4-3.
Head Coach Kyle Howell was pleased with Friday’s overall performance. “We beat ourselves once or twice, but against a good team in Richland that’ll get you,” he said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how our guys rebound”.
It took another game for the Larks to rebound, but after getting beat in the first leg of the doubleheader, the Larks did bounce back to get the win in the fourth game of the series. “I’m really proud of the way this group responded,” said Howell. “We had our backs against the wall and were able to pull out a really good win.”
Harry Park picked up the win going 5 innings giving up two hits compared to four strikeouts. The heart of the lineup came through in game 4 as Ryan Morrissey, Logan Dryden and Kalen Haynes (2) scored. Driving in those runs were Haynes (2), Joshua Stivers and Jonathan Law.
The Larks hope to continue the momentum coming off their first win on Saturday and Sunday in home double headers Northeast Community College.
