The Hesston College Baseball season starts today in Texas. There they will face Richland Community College for two days of double-headers. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of going to Dallas and getting this season started,” said Head Coach Kyle Howell. The Larks hope that this trip will kick-start a campaign that will allow them to improve upon their 15-38 record from last year.
It all starts with pitching and the Larks are quite young this year. The challenge will be having freshman step up to the challenge and be able to lead from the mound. Coach Howell is “really looking for Jonathan Law and Kalen Haynes to be anchors on the pitching staff. Both players have tremendous stuff and the ability to lead our team.”
On the offensive side, there is room for optimism with the team’s numerous options. “This group has the ability to be pretty special,” said Howell. “High school teammates and freshman, Josh Stivers and Ryan Morrissey, provide instant power and stability to the middle of our lineup. Sophomore Cooper Morgan is a constant force and reliable hitter the plate.”
It will not take long for you to have a chance to catch the Larks at home because Tuesday, February 6, they will take on McPherson College for one game starting at 3 p.m. They will stay at home for the remainder of the week when they take on Northeast Community College for double headers on Saturday and Sunday February 10-11. First pitch will take place at noon. The Larks will also have three more home double headers in the month of February.
