Twas’ the night before finals when all through the gym, lady’s basketball was stirring hoping to make the ball through the rim. Visitors from Northwest Tech arrived with a vengeance hoping to steal the Larks win, an early Christmas present. But a win was not coming for Tech you do see, the Larks played great basketball which led to victory.
Earning the 69-58 win, the Larks women’s basketball team set a great tone for the rest of finals week. They will head into the Christmas break with a 7-8 record having won four of their last six.
It was the first quarter that set the tone for Hesston College. Starting off with a 7-0 run, the Larks continue to push the lead to 12-2 behind Connor Atkinson’s second 3-pointer. A balanced offense saw six Larks score in the first period. The scoring balance continued throughout the half as the Larks took a 36-23 lead into the break.
Whitney Green took over in the third quarter, scoring 10 of her 16 points and adding 3 (5 total) steals. The Larks continued to add to their advantage. Connor Atkinson was also in double digits at the final buzzer with 14 points. Again, the balance in the team’s offensive output is seen in the score sheet with nine players scoring and eight players recording at least one rebound. The team also recorded 10 assists, twice as many as Tech, and 11 steals.
The Larks will return to action at home on Thursday, January 11, in a rematch with Rhema Bible College. They will follow that with a trip to McPherson College JV the next day.
