Hesston College softball completed a two-game sweep over visiting Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College Greyhounds; 3-2, 9-0 (5) Thursday at Hesston City Diamond.

The Larks’ freshman Taylor Martin (Lancaster, Pa.) who was perfect at the plate (3-3) knocked in the game winning walk off single to score freshman Josie Noll (Hutchinson, Kan.) to break a 2-2 tie. Hesston College took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and the Greyhounds answered with runs third and sixth innings to tie the game at 2 before the Larks walk off single in the seventh.

Hesston made quick work of the Greyhounds in game two. Freshman Jocelyn Chavez (Realto, Calif.) smacked a two-run home run in the second inning to put the Larks up 2-0. The Larks would add two more runs in the inning to build a comfortable lead, before putting up a five spot on the fourth inning to blow open the game. Game two ended in the fifth with the Larks ahead 9-0.

&ldqyo;A great couple of wins for us. Ashley (Yasin) and Chantel Purcella pitched very well again, and we got some timely hitting to propel us to the sweep,” Head Coach Andrew Sharp commented after the games. “Martin came up huge for us 3-for-3 in game 1 with the walk-off winner and an RBI triple in game three.”

Up next: The Larks (22-18) travel to Independence (Kan.) Community College on Monday, April 17. The Pirates come in winning two in a row to improve their record to 9-22. Hesston and Independence will square off in a double header that was originally rescheduled a couple weeks ago, but was moved due to weather. First pitch against the Pirates is set for 3 p.m.
