Hesston Golf Park
The Hesston College men’s golf team participated in the Bethel College Spring Invitational over the weekend finishing in 13th place out of 16 schools.
On Saturday, the Larks combined for 317 strokes, followed by 338 on Sunday to finish with a team total of 655. Dakota Wesleyan set the pace over the weekend finishing with a team score of 594 to win the event. Hastings (Neb.) College came in 2nd with 598.
Hesston’s Ryan Vernon (Centralia, Kan.) paced the Larks shooting a 79 in the first round, followed by an 80 in round two. Freshman Sam Sowers (Cummings, Kan.) was right behind going 79, 81. Freshman Chandler Roberts (Kyle, Texas) shot an 82, 84 followed by Corey Chalupa (Fort Worth, Texas) who looked promising on Saturday with a 77, before falling back on Sunday with a 93.
The Larks finished ahead of Haskell Indian Nations (Lawrence, Kan.), Baker University (Baldwin City, Kan.) and a split squad from Bethel College (North Newton, Kan.)
Men’s golf will be back in action Monday and Tuesday April 3 and 4 when they travel south to Oklahoma for the St. Gregory’s University Cavalier Classic (Shawnee, Okla.).
