The Hesston College men’s tennis team narrowly missed their first win of the season, falling 5-4 to visiting Concordia University.
The Larks’ #1 doubles team of sophomore Riley Kinglsey (North Newton, Kan.) and freshman Garrett Roth started things off for the Larks with an impressive 8-3 win. In singles play, #2 Nadeem Jaber (freshman, Israel) won 6-1, 6-1 and #3 Josiah Borst (sophomore, Becker, Minn.) also picked up wins for the Larks 6-7(6-8), 6-2, 10-5. Freshman Garrett Roth #5 (Hesston, Kan.) won his match 6-3, 6-3.
“We’re really close to a breakthrough. Everyone has improved a ton, and I look forward to the next couple weeks to see it come together,” Head Coach Chance Joost commented. “It was a great fight. We almost had it. We just got too tired.”
Next up – Larks Tennis will welcome rival Bethel College (North Newton, Kan.) to town on Wednesday, March 8, at 4 p.m., before NCAA DII foe, Dallas Baptist University comes to Hesston on Friday morning, March 10, at 9 a.m.
