The Hesston College volleyball team welcomed the Pirates from Independence (Kan.) Community College in the first of two home matches on the weekend. The Larks dropped the first set 25-20 before rallying and winning three straight sets – 20-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-22 – to win 3-1 overall. Sophomore Jessanna Nebel (Hesston, Kan.) lead the charge with 16 kills, sophomore Kortney Cunningham (Almena, Kan.) added eight blocks and freshman Haley Unruh (Coldwater, Kan.) chipped in seven. The Larks showed some resilience in the middle sets after falling down a set early. “We were steady – not great, not awful,”” Coach Landes commented following the match.
Hesston college followed up Friday’s performance with a clean sweep on Saturday of neighboring Bethel College (North Newton, Kan.) JV 3-0 25-20, 25-20, 25-18. The Larks improve to 14-14 overall.
The volleyball team will close out the regular season in at Neosho County Community College (Chanute, Kan.) on Tuesday November 1. They have a chance to end the regular season winning three straight matches and finishing above .500. The match against the Panthers will begin at 6:30 p.m.
