Volleyball defeats Red Devils in five sets

The Hesston College volleyball team traveled to Iola, Kan., and defeated Allen Community College Red Devils 3-2 (25-14, 22-25, 25-19, 17-25, 15-13) on Saturday afternoon.

The Larks started out strong winning the first set 25-14. Allen CC responded by grabbing the second frame 25-22. Hesston College answered in the third set to go up 2-1 after winning 25-19. The Red Devils forced a fifth set after getting past the Larks 25-17 in the fourth set. The Larks slipped by Allen CC in an exciting final set 15-13 to win the match.

Sophomore Kortney Cunningham (Almena, Kan.) lead the team with 10 assist blocks, while freshman Sierrah Long (Highland, Calif.) added eight. “Everyone stepped up when they needed to,” coach Landes said following the victory.

The win pushes Hesston College to 12-13 overall this season. The Larks will have a chance to get back to .500 on Wednesday Oct. 26, when they travel to the Kansas City area to face Johnson County Community College (Overland Park) in a 5:30 p.m. match.
