Hesston Softball holds on for split with Dodge

The Hesston College softball team split a region double header against Dodge City (Kan.) CC on Tuesday, April 1, moving its season mark to 10-14 (8-12 in Region VI).

Up 6-1 in game one, Hesston saw its lead evaporate in consecutive big innings by the visiting Conquistadors. Dodge City scored five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to come away with an 11-6 win. Whitney Bilbao (Elko, Nev.) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two knocked in. Kasee Tully (McPherson, Kan.) and Victoria Cortez (Moreno Valley, Calif.) had two hits each.

In game two, Hesston took a 7-3 lead into the seventh before surviving a furious Dodge City rally. Hesston started Miranda Follette (Springville, Utah) retired the final three batters to get the win after a three-run home run had made it a 7-6 game. Ellise McGowan (Carson City, Nev.) went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI in game two. Tully went 3-for-4. Bilbao and Tihani Palomares (Mililani, Hawaii) had two hits apiece. 

Hesston hosts Labette CC (Parsons, Kan.) for a 4 p.m. double header on Friday, April 5.
