Bilbao’s extra-inning walkoff sends Larks to doubleheader sweep

The Hesston College Softball team recorded a pair of Region VI wins with a doubleheader sweep of Brown Mackie College (Salina, Kan.) on Friday, March 28.

After cruising to a 12-3 game-one win, Hesston needed nine frames to secure the 4-3 win in the nightcap.

Following a BMC sacrifice fly that tied the score at 1-1 in the seventh, the visiting Lions tacked on two more in the top of the eight to gain a 3-1 lead. Hesston freshman Makenna Grow (Logan, Utah) responded with a two-run, two-out single in the bottom half of the inning that sent the game to the ninth, where Whitney Bilbao’s (Elko, Nev.) one-out single plated the winning run.

Miranda Follette (Springville, Utah) tossed five innings of shutout ball for the Larks before Tihani Palomares (Mililani, Hawaii) closed out the game.

In game one, Cheyenne Cherubini (Flint, Mich.) pitched four innings for the win. Kasee Tully (McPherson, Kan.) went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Bilbao, Grow and Victoria Cortez (Moreno Valley, Calif.) each had two hits.

Hesston hosts Dodge City (Kan.) CC at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1.
