Johnstown Christian School grad Janna Kaufman signs to play soccer at Hesston College

Janna Kaufman, a center striker from Johnstown (Pa.) Christian School, has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Hesston College.

Kaufman lettered all four years in soccer for JCS, scoring 24 goals to go along with three assists as a senior while earning Somerset County All-Star First-Team honors.

Kaufman was a member of a JCS team that reached the first round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) playoffs in 2008.

A dual-sport athlete, Kaufman was a four-year letter winner in basketball. A National Honor Society member, Kaufman graduated third in her class while maintaining above a 4.0 grade point average.

Elsewhere, Kaufman was a member of the Student Leadership Team at JCS, served as Class Treasurer, participated in 4-H, drama, and choir. Kaufman attends Somerset (Pa.) Alliance Church, and is involved in the youth group at Trinity Presbyterian Church.

“I’ve been thrilled to coach Janna for two years at the varsity level,” said JCS soccer coach Mark Ott. “She is dedicated, hardworking, and will be missed.”

Hesston College soccer coach Kurt Hostetler is thrilled to have added Kaufman to the Larks program, stating “Her athleticism and scoring ability will make an immediate impact for us. Janna is an outstanding student as well, and will be an asset to the campus as a whole.”

Kaufman herself is very much excited to be joining the Hesston program. “I have always had a passion for soccer and always wanted to play at the college level. I am excited to come to Hesston to further my education and soccer skills.”

Kaufman is the daughter of Allen and Gloria Kaufman, Friedens, Pa.
