Coach's Comments--
Hesston finally ends its losing streak with a strong win against Barclay College. Hesston began the game passing well and getting deep into Barclay territory. Five minutes into the game the Larks registered their first goal on a free kick from the right corner of the field. Troy Stutzman hit a perfectly placed ball to an on-running Arsene Tshidimu who headed the ball nicely past the keeper from the 6-yard box.
Hesston kept up the pressure chalking up another goal. But it was the third goal that was the nicest. Mark Yoder threaded a nice ball diagonally on the ground into the box. Arsene Tshidimu collected the ball and back-healed it to an overlapping Jared Coblentz who casually nutmegged the keeper. The beginning of the game we were doing some nice passing and that sequence was one of the nicest plays of the game.
The Larks registered three more goals before Barclay finally got on the board. We got a little lazy getting the ball out of the back. But you have to give their player credit he made a nice move to get past our last defender and then he was alone going to goal. He did a nice job to finish it off too. It’s not really a big deal to give one up when you’re up by six but a shut out would have been nice.
Considering that we haven’t had a win in a while and we’ve struggled to score goals it’s was nice to win the way we did (by six goals) but I wouldn’t say it’s the best game we’ve played. That may sound nit picky but it’s my job to get the players ready for teams that won’t give us as much time on the ball as Barclay did today. The win is nice but after fall break the regional tournament will by coming up fast. However, the players had fun and maybe that’s enough for now.
Hesston will take a few days off with fall break and then get back into action against Rhema Bible College on October 17 at home for an afternoon game. The Larks improved their record to 3-9.
