Coach Nussbaum's Comments
Alumni weekend moved in along with the cold front and neither was kind to the hosting Hesston Larks. Playing in front of a hopeful and dedicated crowd, the Hesston footballers failed to answer the bell for the entire first half as the visiting Shockers from WSU ran roughshod over them. Chris Hignight frequently made spectacular saves only to have the shooter escort the follow-up shot into the goal. The cold temperatures and rainy conditions seemed to have an effect on the thought process of the Lark defensive effort.
However, as the temps dipped further in the second half, the team came to life and provided some tense moments in front of the WSU goal while limiting very little on offense for the opponent. Andy Hoffman turned in another defensive gem on his road to recovery from a pulled quadriceps. Angelo Sorboro also registered one of his best efforts to date with several dangerous forays into the offensive third of the field as well as smacking the crossbar with a glorious header from a corner kick. Much credit is given the guys for improving the level of their play as the game progressed, all despite having Tony Hernandez carted off to the ambulance late in the first half. Tony returned to campus several hours later with a sore jaw and cut lip. We're glad to see that Tony will be just fine.
The Larks are in action again on Tuesday the 26th as they host Central Christian College at 7:30.
