Coach Nussbaum's Comments
Playing their most inspired game to date, the Lark eleven found themselves just ten minutes from the first win of the season after cashing in on a penalty kick in the 74th minute. Ogi Marjonovic crashed the goal only to be fouled by the Barclay goalkeeper and a questionable PK was awarded. Tony Hernandez stepped up and calmly pounded home the lead goal.
Hesston tightened up emotionally and fell into a defensive shell only to succumb to Barclay's offensive pressure in the 80th minute. Just moments earlier Pietro Ramelli narrowly missed putting Hesston in a two goal lead screaming a 12 yard shot just inches over the crossbar. Despite giving up the tying goal, the defense continued the best effort of the year by denying the home team for the remainder of the game.
Of note, Andy Hoffman played an outstanding game on Hesston's defensive right flank. Also Chris Hignight provided several stellar saves, once preventing a sure game winning goal in extra time on a blast from 18 yards destined for the far post. The entire team elevated their play to provide an extremely exciting match to have witnessed. Greg Myers also elevated his performance and provided excellent stat keeping in his gimpy condition.
