Coach Sharp's Comments
The Hesston/Allen County game was a very physical game but well refereed. AC came close to getting an early goal just 15 minutes into the game when a hard blast found its way to a waiting attacker who slammed the ball in the back of the net. However the attacker was ruled offside and the goal was disallowed. The call was enough to get an Allen County player (Justin Chrislip) sent off (red carded) for verbally abusing the official. Play in the first half was fairly even in spite of AC being down one man. However, no goals were scored.
The second half AC was able to dominate the play in spite of still being short-handed. Hesston looked unorganized and in disarray. However, it wasn't until with about seven minutes left to play that the deadlock was broken. Alberto Ruiz of AC dribbled through the HC defense and slipped a nice shot to the far post past a diving (Ogi) Marjanovic. Just a few minutes later AC scored again. This time off of a beautiful cross from right to left to an unmarked midfielder who headed the ball into the near side of the goal. Hesston played hard but were just a step slower than their opponent.
The Larks have a few days to get ready for their next opponent at home against Neosho County Community College Thursday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
