Class of 2006 I began my first two years at Hesston College where I had the privilege of playing under Coach Joel Kauffman. Joel was not only a great coach but also became to me, and the rest of the team, a trusted mentor and friend. My Hesston College teammates were amazing; they are my lifelong friends. Because I had so many opportunities to play and lead during my first two years of college, I was recruited by a Division I basketball team, Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., where I am now enrolled with a full basketball scholarship.
I was fortunate, in that Coach Joel at Hesston and Coach Beckie Francis at Oakland are both Christian coaches. Coach Beckie stated when she recruited me that she looked at me, not only because of my basketball skills, but because of the faith she had in the reputation of Hesston College. She knew I would be well prepared for basketball, but also knew that I had the values and academic background necessary for success at Oakland University. I have continued to grow in my basketball skills over the past three years at college, but I have also grown in my self confidence, in the depth of my relationships, in my academic skills, and in my relationship with Christ. I thank God everyday for the way He has led me and for the blessing of my incredible two-college experience—Hesston College and Oakland University.
