When I told my friends that I planned
to attend Hesston College in Kansas, I inevitably received the same incredulous
response: Why? Why Kansas? The fact that anyone would choose to move from
California to Kansas was inconceivable to them. My friends didn’t
understand. Why leave a city with a population of more than 450,000 to go
to a school with a total enrollment barely more than my graduating class,
in a town of hardly more than 3,500 people?
What they couldn’t realize is that Hesston College is not merely an institution,
but a life shaping experience. Hesston has nurtured every aspect of my life,
guiding me to be the kind of person I want to become. A unique, almost palpable
sentiment surrounds the campus created by the energy of the students, which I
have felt nowhere else. The faculty and students make Hesston College the amazing
place that it is.
