We Propose--Ideas from off-campus constituents to strengthen Hesston College

     A total of 64 recommendations along with a rationale were gathered at the 21 meetings that were held. These comments as written are presented in the last 4 pages of this summary. They have been grouped by the main themes that emerged and somewhat along the administrative lines of responsibility within the college.
      The following themes emerged and have been used to group the recommendations:

  1. Institutional - Broad recommendations that would require new institutional initiatives.
     
  2. Marketing - Recommendations related to admissions and recruitment and financial aid.
     
  3. Student Life - Recommendations in regards to campus life and personal development of students.
     
  4. Development/Alumni-Church Relationships - Recommendations in regards to developing the resources needed at the college and relationships with the alumni and church.
     
  5. Academic Program Offerings - Recommendations in regard to programs that exist or new programs that might be considered.
     
  6. Academic Extension - Distance Learning / Service Opportunities - Recommendations in regards to how the academic programs can reach out to those not being served and how the programs can connect so service/learning opportunities.
     
  7. Academic Cross Cultural / Diversity Emphasis - Recommendations related to educating students in regards to the broader world through cross cultural and diversity experiences.
     

The distribution of the comments among these themes is as follows:

     The highest number of recommendations coming from the meetings is related to the Academic area with 62% of the comments. Second is marketing with 17%. The other areas don't have as high percentages but do have some major directional implications for the college and broader church.
      Assessment of these recommendations would need to be done in the context of the mission of the church and the college and the feasibility of carrying these out in regards to programmatic options.
