We Propose--
Faculty and Staff Proposals about Student Learning
- We propose: To expand the learning model of H.C. both internally and
externally. Internal expansion: Mentoring or small group relationship between
student and mature adult. External expansion: Creating adult learning centers
electronically, evening, weekend and off-site.
Because: The larger world is changing so rapidly that H.C. must change
and interact more with this world. Ironically, students caught in this change
need stability. If we find new ways to reach the wider church, we will increase
learning and people will support us. We are specifically poised to do this
because we are so relational. Because culture is changing us, we need to
change the culture.
- We propose: A consulting team to investigate and promote innovative
student centered learning programs.
Because: Students, faculty and staff need to develop skills for constantly
changing needs in their lives, service and careers.
- We propose: To challenge academically advanced students by providing
stimulating opportunities for their further advancement.
Because: We have focused on and invested considerable resources in the
less advanced students.
- We propose: Collaboration with four-year institutions to offer upper
level courses to H.C. students.
Because: Increasingly students are accumulating college credit in high
school, which makes a two-year college less attractive.
- We propose: To develop an innovative general education program that
builds on our strength of community that builds a strong foundation for
other programs and helps students discern their gifts and skills. This will
be done by using teaching/learning strategies best suited for today’s
student.
Because: We need a student-centered learning program to attract and equip
students for service to the church and world.
