Comparison of A and B:

Comparison of "What Matters Most" (Session A) with What We Do Best (Session B) shows the things we value most are the things we do best in most cases. One can see that what we say we do best emerges out of the values the faculty/staff have at Hesston College as shown below:

  • B1 Personal Attention and Caring about students connects to the values of being a Supportive Community (A2) and Embracing Diversity (A6).
  • B2 Dedicated Employees connects to Serving/Working as an Employee Community (A1).
  • B3 Academic Excellence connects to A5 Striving for Excellence.
  • B4 Creating an Environment for Growth and Change relates to A4 Student Success, Growth and Change.
  • B5 Connecting to the Larger Mennonite Church) relates to A3 (Relationship among groups on and off campus).

The themes with higher and lower percentage of notes and comments tend to be similar on both A and B lists above. This speaks to the congruity between “What Matters Most?” and “What We Do Best” and to the amount of importance we place on these themes.
Comparing the internal perspective of faculty and staff with the external perspective of Hesston College would be interesting. It would also be interesting to compare the results of this process with the results of data from other institutions if available. The information contained here could be used as a basis for further discussion by the faculty and staff and/or possibly others groups related to the college.
