Elice Frey, Riley, Kan., has signed a letter of intent to play basketball and softball and study at Hesston College beginning this fall.
A 5'11" forward, Frey was a starter for the undefeated Riley County High School (Riley, Kan.) girls basketball team, which captured the Class 3A state championship earlier this year. She was named honorable mention all-state by several newspapers.
“Elice really shined at the sub-state and state championship games,” said Dan Harrison, women’s basketball coach at Hesston College. “Her ability to score and defend will make her a great player at the college level,” he said. “As good as she was in high school, her best basketball is still ahead of her. I am excited to have a state champion bring that winning attitude to our program.”
Meanwhile, Frey earned honorable mention as a pitcher in the 2008 Mid East League. She batted .297, with 17 runs batted in and an excellent fielding percentage of .936. She was an all-league outfielder during the 2006 and 2007 seasons.
"I'm really excited to have Elice here at Hesston College next season,” said Hesston softball coach Alaina Kaufman. “She's a fun girl who I'm confident will be strong on the mound and a leader for her teammates. Not only will she excel on the field, but in the classroom and campus life as well."
Frey is the daughter of Jeff and Lenice Frey, Riley, Kan.
The Hesston College women’s basketball team competes in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Meanwhile, the Larks softball team competes in the NJCAA, Division III.
Located in south central Kansas, Hesston College is the two-year liberal arts college owned by Mennonite Church USA.
