South Central Kansas the destination for the seventh annual Explore Kansas!

June 18, 2008

Visiting sights in Hutchinson, Yoder, and Pretty Prairie will be the focus of the 7th annual Explore Kansas! trip on Friday, July 11, sponsored by the Hesston College Alumni Association.
The south central Kansas tour leaves Hesston College at 7:30 a.m., with Dillon Nature Center, a wild arboretum of more than 100 acres in Hutchinson, as the first destination. Then around mid-morning, the group will tour the Kansas Underground Salt Museum in Hutchinson. At 650 feet below the earth’s surface, the salt mines are known for their unique storage capabilities. Points of interest include movie costumes on loan from various production companies, plus newspaper articles from Abraham Lincoln’s era.
After lunch at the Carriage Crossing Restaurant in Yoder, tour participants will explore the many attractions at the Cosmosphere back in Hutchinson. Then at 6 p.m., the tour ends in Pretty Prairie, where the downtown centerpiece is the historic 200-seat Pretty Prairie Civic Theater. Originally opened in 1936, the theater reopened in 1981 to feature classic movies. Participants will enjoy a buffet dinner and a classic movie.
Cost is $75 per person and is limited to the first 45 persons who register. The registration deadline is Friday, July 4.
