A record number of Hesston College baseball players were named recently to the all-Region 6 team (Division II, National Junior College Athletic Association). Six players received the post-season honor this year. The previous record was five.
Sophomores receiving the honor were Daniel Martin, Harrisonburg, Va.; Dallas Fenn, Wichita, Kan.; Cody Batchelor, Durango, Colo.; and Yogi Lynch, Bartlesville, Okla.
Martin, the shortstop and co-captain, led the team in RBI's with 19 while batting .284. He also made the elite team his freshman year. Fenn batted .278 and set school records for most assists from the outfield in a season with 9, and a career total of 15. As the designated hitter, Batchelor batted .328 with 16 RBI's and 3 home runs. Lynch led the pitching staff with a 4.83 ERA. He recorded 3 wins and pitched 3 complete games.
Receiving the honor as freshmen were Kirk Kelly, Newton, Kan.; and Adam Smart, Westminster, Colo. Kelly, the centerfielder, batted .353, with a team-leading 7 doubles, while committing no errors in 51 chances. Smart, who played second base, led the team with 28 hits, while batting .289, and striking out only 6 times all season.
