Hesston College volleyball coach Vanessa Schroeder has announced the signing of 5'4" Allison Martin, a defensive specialist from WACO High School in Wayland, Iowa. 
Chelsey Alden, a 5'11" middle blocker/outside hitter from Jefferson Academy (Broomfield, Colo.), has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Hesston College.
A two-sport athlete, Alden lettered two years in volleyball and three years in basketball for Jefferson Academy. In both volleyball and basketball, Alden was named as a team captain during her senior year.
A second team all-conference selection her senior year, Alden was voted as the most valuable player for her team. During her junior year, she was recognized as the team's top offensive player.
Other honors Alden has received include Coaches and Captains Award in basketball (2006), Most Improved in American History (2006), and Girl Scouts Silver Award (2006).
Alden excels in the classroom as well, as she has been on the Silver Honor Roll (maintaining a 3.0 or better) since her freshman year.
"Chelsey brings great enthusiasm into the gym," said Hesston volleyball coach Vanessa Schroeder. "Her court movement and verbal skills make her a strong presence at the net which will mesh well with our returning front row players and setter."
Alden is the daughter of Mark and Pam Alden, Broomfield, Colo.
Megan McFadden, a 5'11" middle blocker/opposite hitter from Pretty Prairie (Kan.) High School, has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Hesston College.
A three-sport athlete, McFadden lettered three years in volleyball for Pretty Prairie High, as well as three years in basketball and two in track. In basketball, McFadden set a single-game school-record with 18 rebounds. She also lettered in forensics her freshman year.
During her senior year, McFadden was nominated for the Kansas Volleyball Association All-Academic Team.
McFadden currently serves as copy editor for the Pretty Prairie High Yearbook Staff, and has been on the honor roll throughout her high school career. She is active in her church, serving as secretary for the First Mennonite Church Youth Group in Pretty Prairie.
“Megan has been instrumental in taking her high school team to a new level the past four years,” said Hesston volleyball coach Vanessa Schroeder. “Her strength coming into our program is her blocking ability, which will make her competitive in several positions within our team.”
McFadden is the daughter of Denise Ice and Michael McFadden, both of Pretty Prairie.
The first three members of the Hesston College volleyball 2009 recruiting class have been announced. The future Larks include;
Delaney Schlake, middle blocker/outside hitter, Cortland, Neb.
Hannah Hoffman, outside hitter/setter, Meade, Kan.
Janelle Jenkins, libero, Aurora, Colo.
Delaney Schlake, a 5’11” middle blocker/outside hitter from Beatrice High School, Beatrice, Neb., has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Hesston College.
Schlake, a four-year member of the volleyball team at Beatrice High, received the practice player of week honor from her team and coaches during her senior year.
Aside from volleyball, Schlake has been involved in numerous community and school activities, including participation in the Renaissance program (maintaining a 3.0 GPA for a semester), the Beatrice High marching band, and the theatre club. She was recently a volunteer at the Beatrice High blood drive, and is the cadet aid to a third grade class at Lincoln Elementary School in Beatrice.
Schlake is a member of Beatrice Mennonite Church and is active in the senior youth fellowship. In July, 2007, She attended the Mennonite Church USA youth convention in San Jose, Calif.
Schlake also volunteered with other members of the church at the local Warren’s Community Supper Table, where church members provide hot meals to individuals and families in need. A former member of the High Hopes and Indian Creek 4-H Clubs, Schlake received local honors as a person of character in the character counts program where a book was given in her name to the Beatrice public library.
“Delaney is a smart attacker from all areas of the courts,” commented Hesston College volleyball coach Vanessa Schroeder. “She has developed very strong ball skills and her athleticism will help her work into any hitting position.”
Schlake is the daughter of Robert and Denise Schlake, Cortland, Neb.

Hannah Hoffman, a 5’7” outside hitter/setter from Meade (Kan.) High School, has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Hesston College.
Hoffman lettered three years in volleyball for Meade High, and during her senior year was named 1st team all-league and area honorable mention. In 2007, Hoffman garnered 2nd team all-league honors.
Hoffman was a member of Meade’s 2005 team that participated in the state tournament.
A three-sport athlete, Hoffman was a four-year letter winner and three-year state tournament participant in track, where she twice placed in the top eight in Kansas in Javelin. In 2007, she was regional javelin champion. Hoffman also earned three varsity letters in basketball. During her junior year, she collected all-league 2nd team honors, as well as all-area honorable mention.
Elsewhere, Hoffman currently serves as the president for Kansas Association for Youth (KAY), is a member of the National Honor Society, and is involved in Band and Choir. As a junior, she served as class president at Meade High. Hoffman is active in her church, serving as treasurer for Lutheran Youth Fellowship.
“Hannah is an all-around player that has the ability to contribute in many capacities,” said Hesston volleyball coach Vanessa Schroeder. “She has the confidence needed to be a leader and brings a great court sense and a desire to win to our program.”
Hoffman is the daughter of Troy and Paula Hoffman, Meade.

Janelle Jenkins, a 5’3” libero from Eaglecrest High School (Aurora, Colo.) has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Hesston College.
A letter-winner in volleyball during her senior year, Jenkins helped her team to the district championship in 2008.
Since 2006, Jenkins has served as an assistant volleyball coach for a local middle school.
Aside from volleyball, Jenkins was honored as the student of the month for October, 2008, and is serving as an officer in her school club during her senior year. Last year, she was active in her home church’s “Extreme Community Makeover” program.
“Janelle has a great amount of experience through high school and club volleyball, as well as coaching younger players, which makes her an ideal candidate for our program,” commented Hesston coach Vanessa Schroeder. “She is a talented young lady who already does many of the things I expect the collegiate player to develop. She reads very well and her consistent movement on the floor is wonderful to see.”
Jenkins is the daughter of James and Janet Jenkins, Aurora, Colo.
