DeeDee Landes, a 2002 Hesston graduate, was an NJCAA All-American during her time at Hesston and continued her volleyball career at Goshen (Ind.) College where she broke the school record for digs and aces per season during her upperclassman years. During her time at Hesston she also succeeded as a two sport athlete, playing a successful role on the basketball team.
Landes graduated from Goshen in 2005 with a nursing degree and made the Dean’s list every semester she was in college. In addition to being employed as a nurse, she has been an assistant coach at Hesston for the past three seasons, recruiting players and helping run the program.
Current players are also excited to see Landes take charge of the program. “I love her!” says Christy Swartzendruber, class of 2016. “She genuinely cares about our wellbeing as students and recognizes the importance of our spiritual and academic lives.”
Landes is supported by her family in her step up to head coach. Her husband Mark, also employed by Hesston, and children Kason, Taylor and Kellen, enjoy attending the games and are excited to see DeeDee succeed in her new role.
Coming off the back of two successful 21-win seasons, Landes think the program can go even further. “Hesston College Volleyball is at an excellent place and I look forward to building from here,” she said. “I expect to bring players to Hesston who will fit both the mission of the college and the volleyball program.”
