A successful student athlete in my program is someone who is willing to challenge herself on the field, to think critically in the classroom, and to commit to a community-minded atmosophere on campus. Hesston College exists to shape the minds and hearts of the young people it serves, and I hope my program is a place where students come to experience growth in all areas of their lives.
A 2004 graduate of Hesston College, Katie played two years for the Larks as a pitcher and utility player. After a year of service with Mennonite Mission Network in Denver, Colorado, she completed a Bachelor's degree in Social Work at Eastern Mennonite University (Harrisonburg, Va.). She then moved to Belgrade, Serbia, as a volunteer with Mennonite Central Committee's SALT (Serving and Learning Together) program. Originally from Greenwood, Delaware, Coach Chaffinch now serves as a resident director on the Hesston College campus.
"As an athlete at Hesston I learned about the mental aspects of the game as well as the discipline to balance academics, relationships, and softball. Now I look forward to helping other young women walk through this exciting time in their lives, and watching as they grow on and off the field."

"I love the game of softball because it not only is a great game but, like many sports, it teaches us so much about life and how to live. I also enjoy being around the players immensely and I enjoy observing them grow in their faith and mature as players and people".
