Phil170 Introduction to Philosophy 3 hours

Introduces major philosophical systems, thinkers and problems that have shaped the Western intellectual heritage, through an examination of original works of philosophy. Course readings and assignments invite students to confront and personally engage with central philosophical questions, including the nature of truth, God, moral values and the meaning of existence. Though it provides a broad and general introduction, the course uses one central philosophical problem as a primary lens for exploring the most important features of Western philosophy.
