Where did you grow up/what high school did you attend?
I grew up in Shickley, a typical small town in rural Nebraska. I graduated from Shickley Public School.

Why did you choose Hesston?
Several of my family members and friends came to Hesston, so I had heard about Hesston for a long time. When it came time for me to start thinking about college, Hesston was at the top of my radar. My older brother was a student at Hesston at the time, so I had visited several times and I always had a blast! I loved that Hesston was a small, friendly campus. I always felt welcomed and comfortable when I came to visit, even by people who didn’t know me.

What is your favorite Hesston College memory?
I have so many great memories from my time at Hesston and they all have one thing in common – they involve other people. As long I was with friends we were having a great time hanging out, talking, and being crazy in the mods, going to Starbucks in Wichita at 1 in the morning, and running around campus under the cover of darkness having a water balloon fight.

Where did you go after Hesston? what degree(s) did you earn?
After Hesston I transferred to Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where I finished my bachelor of arts degree in English in the spring of 2007.

What is the same about Hesston as when you attended?
The atmosphere on campus is still very much the same as when I was a student. Students, faculty, and staff are all so friendly and show genuine concern and interest for one another.

What makes Hesston better than when you were a student here?
There are always improvements being made around campus – whether it is the new widows in Erb Hall (one of the dorms), or making the Pit (the basement/hangout in one of the dorms) more user friendly, or the new fine arts building, or the beginning of the new women’s soccer program. Hesston is doing it’s best to meet the needs of all students.

Fun/interesting/just plain strange facts about me….

  1. I cry when I laugh. (Not sad crying) My brothers do whatever they can to make me laugh because the get a huge kick out of it!
  2. If I could choose any decade to live in it would be the 1920s in New York or Chicago. It would’ve been amazing!
  3. I love cheesy 80s movies and 80s pop rock.

What you should know about making the college decision:
You can read all kinds of things about the schools you’re looking at, but you can’t really get a feel for the atmosphere and reality of a campus until you visit. Visit all the schools you are looking at before you rule anything out!
