What drew you to Hesston College?
At first I did not know about Hesston. My best friend told me about the college and I went and looked the school up. When I went to the website I found out about the school and the town which reminded me much of home. I wanted a place where I would be comfortable and be able to grow, and Hesston fit that description.

How challenging are the academics at Hesston?
Hesston challenges you think outside the box. The professors give you ideas and situations of everyday life and ask you to think about them. They are not worried so much about what the books say but what you as an individual have to say. They challenge you to bring your thoughts and ideas to the table, and trust me, you will be there for days sometimes thinking of different things. But one is that your answers are not right or wrong. I am glad that my professors challenge me to bring my ideas to the table and I am glad that they care and take time to listen to my thoughts. The academics will challenge you to think in ways you never thought you could.

What attracts you to psychology?
I am attracted to learning why people do the things they do. I was always helping someone in high school and trying to help people solve their problems. But most of all I just want to know why people do what they do and why they think the way they do. I think it is amazing to help others and also to see how people function in certain situations.

What is your favorite psychology course?
My favorite psychology course was Developmental Psychology because I love learning about the process of life and the emotions or functions that an individual goes through. It was great to have other individuals come into class and to see the differences between younger ages and older ages and the processes that they go through but also the similarities that they have as well.

What is your favorite of all of the courses you have taken?
I can’t say that I have had a favorite course because I like all my courses. My professors challenged me in all ways and I was glad that I could work with all my professors in any situation that came up. I learned a lot from all my courses and really can’t say that I have a favorite because they all were learning experiences that helped me grow.

Did you find opportunities for learning experiences outside the classroom?
Of course I did. My professors gave me new ways to think and when things came up in my life I learned or looked back on things I learned in class and applied them and that was a great learning experience that Hesston gave me. It showed me that I could learn by interacting with other people and learn from them and not just lean on my experiences in the classroom.

What are some of your most memorable moments as a student at Hesston?
I think my most memorable times as a student was just being with people and being able to not just have the professors as my teachers but also as friends. I think I will always remember the many chats that we students had with the professors and how they listened to us and took time to acknowledge that we have a voice and want to be heard.

What are your plans for after Hesston?
I plan to move to Bethany, W.V., where I will continue my studies for my master's in social work and psychology.
