What drew you to Hesston College?
I knew I was looking for a small college with a strong sense of community. Other kids that I knew who went to Hesston were very happy there. I did not know exactly what I wanted to major in, and Hesston seemed like a good place to try things out.

What attracts you to Chemistry?
Everything around us and in us involves chemistry. It's fun to know what things are made up of. Chemistry is an very active field; new materials, fuels, and medicines are constantly being developed.

How challenging are the academics in the Chemistry program?
The classes are challenging and thorough enough that you will be well prepared to study chemistry at any school you choose to transfer to. You won't have to experience the over-competitive and stressful atmosphere that you might at many larger schools.

What is your favorite Chemistry course? Why is it your favorite?
I enjoyed organic chemistry the most because it involves many materials and chemicals that we use in our everyday lives. A few of the things you do in lab include the following: determining the active ingredients of Excedrin, making banana oil, and even making a little bit of nylon.

Did you find opportunities/learning experiences outside the classroom?
Hesston has many opportunities outside the classroom like choir, intramurals, and various social activities.

What are the professors like in the department?
Jim Yoder is the Professor of Chemistry at Hesston College. He is a great lecturer and he has a lot of experience in his field. I have enjoyed all of his classes. He is always willing to help students with anything that they need. He is a good Christian role model.

What are some of your most memorable moments as a student at Hesston?
I will always remember all the great times I've had making new friends, running around with the guys in our mod, and singing in Bel Canto.

What are your plans for after Hesston?
I will attend Goshen College. I will continue to study chemistry and I will study secondary education. I hope to become a chemistry teacher.
