To be eligible for admission to Hesston College, a student must achieve these minimum scores
- 440 on the Paper-Based TOEFL (PBT)
- 123 on the Computer-Based TOEFL (CBT)
- 41 on the Internet-Based TOEFL (iBT)
- 4 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- 475 on the TOEIC
- Second Grad on the STEP (EIKEN)

- 41-60 on the Internet-Based TOEFL (iBT)
- 4 to 5.5 on the IELTS
- 475-639 on the TOEIC
- Second Grade on the STEP (EIKEN)
- Unrestricted enrollment
- 500 or higher on the PBT
- 173 or higher on the CBT
- 61 or higher on the iBT
- 5.6 or higher on the IELTS
- 640 or higher on the TOEIC
- Pre-First Grade or higher on the STEP (EIKEN)
English as a Second Language (ESL) Courses
Engl 102--ESL: Listening/Speaking (Intermediate)
- Offered in Fall Term
- 3 credit hours (does not apply to credit hours for graduation from
Hesston College)
- For students whose ability is in TOEFL range of 440-469 (123-149
on CBT, 41-51 on iBT)
- Group and individual instruction in English language; the components consist of listening and speaking activities and vocabulary development. The components are coordinated by theme.
Engl 104--ESL: Grammar/Writing (Intermediate)
- Offered in Fall Term
- 4 credit hours (does not apply to credit hours for graduation from
Hesston College)
- For students whose ability is in TOEFL range of 440-469 (123-149
on CBT, 41-51 on iBT)
- Group and individual instruction in English language; the components
consist of grammar and writing skills activities. The components are
coordinated by theme.
Engl 105--ESL: Listening/Speaking (Advanced)
- Offered in Fall Term and Spring Term
- 3 credit hours (may be applied to credit hours for graduation from
Hesston College)
- For students whoe ability is in the TOEFL range of 470-499 (150-172
on CBT, 52-60 on iBT)
- Focuses on learning strategies and language functions while maintaining
a strong focus on both listening and speaking. Interactive listening
activities are based on short but realistic academic lectures and
sample conversations.
Engl 106--ESL: Reading/Vocabulary (Advanced)
- Offered in Spring Term
- 3 credit hours (may be applied to credit hours for graduation from
Hesston College)
- For students whoe ability is in the TOEFL range of 470-499 (150-172
on CBT, 52-60 on iBT)
- Enables the student to deal effectively with sophisticated reading
materials of both a scientific and humanistic nature. Gives the students
the higher competence necessary for studying college classroom textbook
reading.
