Spiritual Life
Since
our founding nearly 100 years ago, spirituality has been the cornerstone
of the Hesston experience. As a student here you will encounter an atmosphere
that embraces the varied dimensions of each individual’s faith
journey, and provides the resources to take your particular journey
to new heights.
Campus Ministries at Hesston coordinates the majority of religious and spiritual life programs both on and off campus. Some of these include:
Bible Studies
These are small groups that gather for fellowship, sharing, Bible study,
and prayer in an intimate setting. At the beginning of each semester
the campus pastor trains student leaders for Bible study groups, and
students often form their own small groups in their mods.
Campus Worship
At the beginning of each year, several worship teams are formed as a way to heighten the level of student engagement on campus. Every Wednesday, beginning at 8 p.m., the Campus Worship teams lead informal gatherings, which include singing contemporary choruses, sharing, prayer, and teachings from the Bible.
Chapel
Twice a week chapel is a time for the entire campus community to come together for worship and celebration of faith, as well as the sharing of announcements and concerns with regards to the community. Chapels take place every Monday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and often include speakers and dramatic, musical, and multi-media presentations.
International Bible Study
All Hesston students are invited to come together in this sharing of global Christian fellowship, which includes singing, praying in many languages, and teaching from the Bible. These gatherings occur every other Thursday at 8 p.m.
Sunday Worship
Many students at Hesston take advantage of the Sunday worship services at any of the community’s congregations. Some area churches provide transportation and special classes for students who attend their services.
Retreats
The Stutzman Retreat Center is located eight miles southwest of Hesston, and is an ideal environment available to student groups for overnight retreats, picnics, Bible study, and other activities.
Missions/Service Emphasis Days
Twice each year representatives from various mission and service agencies meet with students on campus to provide information about the many opportunities within the programs they represent.
