Short-term (one day or less) service opportunities

Service Week is September 3-7. There are a number of service opportunities in which FYE students may participate:

  • Fishing trip at Lake Vista – Tues. Sept. 3, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Help with recycling at Hesston College – Tues. Sept. 3, 2:00-4:00 p.m.
  • Clean wheelchairs at Schowalter Villa – Tues. Sept. 3, 8:00-10:00 p.m.
  • Move boxes of books; pack and sort books to be sent to Ethiopian schools – Tues. Sept. 3, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
  • Take Schowalter Villa residents on a stroll through the Dyck Arboretum – Wed. Sept. 4, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Assemble wheelchairs to go to developing countries – Wed. Sept. 4, 4;00-6:00 p.m.
  • Be a part of singing group that sings at Schowalter Villa – Thurs. Sept. 5, 7:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Serve meals and clean up at the Lord’s Diner in Wichita – Thurs. Sept. 5, 4:00-8:30 p.m.
  • Do a variety of tasks at the Mennonite Central Committee warehouse – Sat. Sept. 7, 9:00-12:00 a.m.
  • Play table games with Schowalter Villa residents – Sat. Sept. 7, 9:00-11:00 a.m.
  • Eat breakfast with seniors at Hesston Area Senior Center and then clean – Sat. Sept. 7, 7:30-9:00 a.m.
  • Clean and paint at the Harvey County Homeless Shelter – Sat. Sept. 7, 9:00-10:30 a.m.
  • Help at the Fall Plant Sale at the Dyck Arboretum – Sat. Sept. 7, 8:00-11:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
  • Help refugees with orientation to the U.S. (through some FYE-linked courses) – varying times
  • Help promote sustainability and conservation throughout the mods in Environmental Science class – varying times
