RN-Completion Track for LPN Applicants

LPN applicants may qualify to receive transfer credit for up to 16 hours of the nursing coursework (the entire first year of nursing courses). Hesston College values the education and expertise which the LPN has already acquired through education and work experience.

Hesston College will accept for transfer those courses that meet Hesston College course descriptions for the following requirements (if a grade of C or better was achieved).

    Anatomy & Physiology 5 credit hours
    Microbiology 3 credit hours
    Introductory Chemistry
   (or recent high school chemistry with grade of B or above)   
4 credit hours
    Developmental Psychology
   (or Human Growth and Development)
3 credit hours
    Principles of Nutrition 3 credit hours
    College Writing (or English Composition I) 3 credit hours
    Speech Communication, Interpersonal Communication,
   or Group Communication
3 credit hours
    Humanities course
   (history, fine arts appreciation, or literature)
3 credit hours
    Introduction to Computers or college-level computer course
   (or pass competency exam)
2 credit hours
    College Algebra (or pass competency exam) 3 credit hours

Applicants choosing the LPN-to-RN track can usually complete the program in two semesters if the majority of the above requirements have already been met. To enter the second year of the nursing program, applicants must have completed all of the sciences (A&P, Chemistry and Microbiology) and Developmental Psychology, and have a maximum of three general education/supporting courses left to complete (including the computer requirement).

A typical plan of study for the LPN curriculum follows:

First Semester (Fall - second level of program)
    Biblical Literature* 3 credit hours
  Nursing III (Medical/Surgical and Mental Health) 9 credit hours
  Nursing Pharmacology III 1 credit hour
  Remaining course, if needed 3 credit hours

    Nursing IV (Medical/Surgical and Client Care Management)    9 credit hours
