Course Description

This course provides experiences designed to develop skills that will lead to success academically and in other areas of life; in short, to become and remain a student.  Primary emphasis will include orientation to fundamental concepts and methods for academic success in the college setting.

General Objectives

  • To learn to develop effective college success skills in an academic setting.
  • To set goals and apply techniques that will support the students' academic endeavors.
  • To provide opportunities for the education and the development of the full potential of every student within community.

Course Content

The course will cover the following core topics: classroom citizenship and study skills, goal setting, time management, college writing standards and documentation, library and internet research, and critical thinking skills.

Format

Campus experts will structure learning activities in specific areas of content.  Classes will be interactive, and at times in smaller groups. 

Requirements

Attendance and participation in ALL class sessions and forums

Goal-setting essay

Assignments/activities as required by individual session leaders

Revision of Goal-setting essay
