Using VA Education Benefits at Hesston College

Programs Approved at Hesston College

All courses and programs of study at Hesston College that lead to the Associate of Arts, the Associate of Science, or the Associate of Applied Arts and Sciences have been approved by the Veterans Administration (VA). If you are a veteran or the survivor or dependent of a veteran you can use VA education benefits in pursuit of any of these degrees.

Steps involved in securing benefits

NOTE: Hesston College does not use VACERT, the electronic education certification program. All forms are submitted in paper to the VA regional processing center in St Louis. All forms are available from the Hesston College registrar. You can also access them at the VA web site.

  1. To apply for education benefits, you must complete VA form 22-1990 Application for VA Education Benefits. If you are seeking benefits as a survivor or dependent of a veteran, complete VA form 22-5490 Application for Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance. Give the completed form to the Hesston College registrar to submit along with an enrollment certification.
If you have used VA education benefits at another school prior to Hesston, complete VA form 22-1995 Request or Change of Program or Place of Training. Give the completed form to the Hesston College registrar to submit along with an enrollment certification.
If you plan to be concurrently enrolled in several schools you should check with the certifying official at each one. They may need to file additional forms on your behalf to reflect total registration.
  2. Once you have been formally admitted as a degree-seeking student at Hesston College and have enrolled in classes, the Hesston College registrar will certify your enrollment within the time frame permitted by the VA. A new VA form 22-1999 Enrollment Certification is submitted for each term enrolled. If your level of enrollment changes at any point in the term after the initial certification, the registrar must file VA form 22-1999b Notice of Change of Student Status to notify VA of the change.
