Two Hesston College Larks volleyball players earned places on the NJCAA Division II District M All-District Team.
Kelsee Eckhart, sophomore outside hitter from Midland, Texas, was named first team all district. Eckhart holds Hesston College career records in kills (765) and digs (672). She leads the Larks this year in kills (396), kills per game (3.6), and aces per game (.55). She is currently 30th in the nation (NJCAA Division II) in kills per game.
Coach Vanessa Schroeder calls Eckhart "a talented young lady who has learned the college game very well. She has become a strong vocal leader for this team as a co-captain, as well, which has helped many of her younger teammates progress nicely into the high level of play we have been working toward all season."
Amy Gerhardt, sophomore middle blocker from Netawaka, Kan., was named second team all district. Gerhardt led the Larks in blocking with .78 blocks per game before a season-ending knee injury in mid October.
"We have truly missed Amy's presence on the court the past several weeks," Schroeder commented. "But her positive attitude and ability to help run practices has made a tremendous impact on the team and the players who have stepped into her position. This honor shows how valuable Amy was and still is to this team."
The Larks' season continues this weekend (Nov. 4-5) at the District M Tournament at Cowley College in Winfield. Hesston faces 14th-ranked Neosho County Community College at noon Nov. 4 in a first-round match in the double elimination tournament.
