President Howard Keim announced the appointment of Joel Kauffman as vice president of Admissions and Financial Aid Services at Hesston College Friday, March 7.
Kauffman has served as interim vice president of Admissions since May 5, 2007.
“Joel's energy, eagerness to learn, knowledge of recruitment, and ability to motivate will serve him and Hesston College well as he assumes this role,” said President Keim. “His previous roles at Hesston include teaching a variety of courses, coaching women's basketball, and serving in several leadership roles, including Faculty Chair and member of the Leadership Council. He will no longer coach, but would like to continue teaching on a limited basis.”
A 1980 graduate of Hesston College, Kauffman holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Fresno (Calif.) Pacific University (1982), and a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in athletic administration from Wichita State University (1993).
Kauffman started teaching, as well as coaching women’s basketball, in the fall of 1987.
“I’m really looking forward to this new challenge,” Kauffman said of his appointment. “I’m also looking forward to working with the current admissions team to continually find new and innovative ways to attract students to this wonderful place.”
Kauffman admitted he will miss coaching women’s basketball, after 21 seasons at the helm. “I will miss the relational part of the job the most, the relationships with the players,” he said. “That was the best part of my job and such a wonderful blessing. It never felt like work.”
A search is underway for a new women’s basketball coach.
