Tim Swartzendruber, men's basketball coach at Hesston College, announced that he's signed his first two recruits for the 2007-2008 season.
The first is Austin Hoyer, a 6'5" forward from Diamond, Mo. Hoyer, who graduated from Diamond High School in 2006, averaged 25.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game his senior year, when his team completed a 23-6 record.
Hoyer was named Second Team All-State Class 2A in Missouri and First Team All-Area (which includes southwest Missouri, southeast Kansas, and northeast Oklahoma). He was also selected as Most Valuable Player of the All-Area team his senior year.
Hoyer was a First Team All-Conference performer his junior and senior years, and was named First Team All-District his junior and senior years.
"I am extremely pleased to announce Austin as our first signee," Coach Swartzendruber said. "He had an outstanding high school career and we look forward to him being an impact player for us next year. He comes from a strong Christian family and I believe his values and work ethic will allow him to be a good fit at Hesston."
Hoyer's parents are Chris and Holly Hoyer, Diamond.
Swartzendruber has also signed 5'9" point guard Tyler Craig, Goddard, Kan. Craig, a three-year starter at Goddard High School, played a part in two league championships. He was selected to the First Team All-League his senior year, and was Honorable Mention All-Class 6A.
During his senior season, Craig averaged 9.3 points, 5.3 assists, and 2.8 steals per game.
"This is a great signing for us," Swartzendruber said. "Tyler brings intensity and great work ethic to our program. He has played in a super program at Goddard under head coach Steve Blue. We are excited to have him."
Craig is the son of Laureen Craig, Goddard.
The Hesston College men's basketball team competes in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Located in south central Kansas, Hesston College is the two-year liberal arts college owned by Mennonite Church USA.
