Three members of the Hesston College
women's basketball team have been selected to the All Region (Region VI)
team for the 2002 season.
Elise Hazelwood, of Ft. Madison,
Iowa, daughter of Tom and Patty Hazelwood, led the team in scoring with
a 15.9 points per game average and finished her career at Hesston as the
fourth leading scorer in the college's history. She also averaged 5.8
rebounds per game, second on the team.
DeeDee Martin, of LaJunta,
Colo., daughter of J. David and Peggy Martin, finished the season as the
seventh all-time leading scorer at Hesston College, averaging 14.2 points
per game. She also finished fourth in career assists and led the team
with 88 assists and 6.7 rebounds per game.
Mary Wittmer, of Hartville,
Ohio, daughter of Richard and Ruby Wittmer, led the team in steals with
74 and was second with 86 assists (3.0 average) for the season. She also
averaged 9 points per game.
"These three were the nucleus
of a team that went 19-11," said coach Joel Kauffman. "They
provided excellent leadership and will be missed."
