Larks earn 1-0 road win

The Hesston College women’s soccer team recorded a 1-0 road win at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, Miami, Okla., on Saturday, Sept. 3, improving their season record to 2-1. 

Freshman Chihiro Hikita (Hokuto, Japan) scored the game’s lone goal in the 62nd minute, assisted by freshman Mariah Martin (Glenwood Springs, Colo.). Sophomore goalkeeper Amber Mayer (Wichita, Kan.) made six saves including a one-on-one save late in the game to preserve the victory. Hesston held advantages of nine shots on goal to six for NEO and nine corner kicks to one for NEO. 

“I was especially proud of our defense in posting their second shutout in three games,” said Hesston coach Bryan Kehr. “Hannah Bachman, Tori Wheeler, Karli Graybill, Alyssa Newswanger, Kendra Litwiller and Amber Mayer played an outstanding game tonight.”

Hesston’s next game is Wednesday, Sept. 7 at Allen CC, Iola, Kan., 2 pm.
