Larks battle but fall to Blue Dragons late

The Hesston College women’s soccer team fell 4-0 to 13th ranked Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons on Wednesday afternoon in Hutchinson, Kan.

For 80 minutes the teams fought to a scoreless draw, weathering the storms of each other’s attacks. it was looking like the Larks could grab a tie, force overtime or win with a late goal. The Blue Dragons broke through with a goal in the 80th minute on a shot that dribbled past Hesston keeper Cassidy Bontrager’s initial save. Hutch added a second goal a minute later with a hard shot just inside the right post from about 25′.

The Larks didn’t give up, pushing into the offensive third and producing several shots on goal but the Blue Dragons added goals in the 87th and 89th minutes to produce a 4-0 final score. The loss drops Hesston to 11-3.

Women’s soccer returns to the field with another road game in Great Bend taking on Barton College at 2 p.m. Oct. 13. The Larks defeated the Cougars 4-1 in Hesston last month.
