Larks win again; improve to 6-3

The Hesston College women’s soccer team dispatched York (Neb.) College by a 4-1 score on Thursday night, Sept. 22, improving its record to 6-3 on the year.

York grabbed a quick 1-0 lead minutes into the contest on a free kick before freshman Alyssa Newswanger’s (Ephrata, Pa.) goal in the 19th minute evened the score. Chihiro Hikita (Hokuto, Japan) put Hesston in front with a penalty kick just before the break.

It was all Hesston in the second half, as the Larks tacked on two more scores courtesy of Colby Troyer (Waterford, Pa.) and Mariah Martin (Glenwood Springs, Colo.) to put the match out of reach.

Hesston finished with commanding advantages in shots on goal (16-2) and corner kicks (11-0).

At the halfway point of the 2011 season, the Larks and second-year coach Bryan Kehr have now doubled their win total from last season. Up next for Hesston – a home date with Independence (Kan.) Community College on Saturday, Sept. 24, beginning at 5 p.m.
