Lark women’s tennis wins, men’s team falls at Kansas Wesleyan

Coach James Komakech got his first win as a head coach as the Larks women’s tennis team defeated Kansas Wesleyan University 5-4 on Tuesday.

Hannah Rosenbaum, Lily Wait and Cameron Bracknell all won their singles matches. In the number 3 singles match, Bracknell had to outlast a long bout against Mallory of KWU. The match was finally decided with a final score of 17-15. “I am proud of our players,” Komakech said. “The responded well and took what did in practice to help them win.”

The doubles teams of Rosenbaum/Bracknell and Wait/Kaede Nakada were able to pull out wins to give the Larks their first win of the fall season.

The men’s team, down a player, were not able to overcome the deficit and lost 3-6. Jeff Kauffman and Curtis Oesch won their singles matches while the tandem of Garrett Roth and Hermes Fernandez won their doubles match.

“I thought both teams played really well” said Coach Komakech. “It was good to put them into tough situations and I believe they will continue to get better and have good results the rest of the year.”
